Wow, I'm so shocked you don't like Bernstein's film scores. Because, after all, his "Animal House" and "Airplane" are two of the most droll and witty things written by an American composer in the second half of the 20th century, and you have no sense of humor at all.

Hey Sparky -- you know what else is hilarious? Bernstein was blacklisted (and therefore you have to hate him because he was a Commie by definition) and guess who broke the blacklist for him and gave the guy a job despite his politics?

Rightwing scumbag Cecil B. DeMille (who hired EB to do "The Ten Commandments.").

Thus proving him more of a real liberal than you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really are too stupid to be bothering with.  Elmer Bernstein worked on movies just about every year during the Hollywood blacklist years,  he didn't like some of them but he had work whereas those who were really blacklisted couldn't get work.  Looking up your claim, apparently he didn't make that claim, himself,  I read the term "greylisted" used for his situation.   He wasn't a member of the Communist Party, by his own word, so he said he couldn't name names of those who were.

Since De Mille was one of the worst of the commie hunters in Hollywood, using that as an excuse to fight against unions,  your Trumpian nonsense is even stupider than usual.   I wonder where Bernstein would place his work on Animal House and Airplane within his movie scores.   The movies were both shit but I didn't make that decision on the basis of the scores.   I'm not surprised a case of arrested adolescence such as you would hold them in such high regard.   Clearly, you peaked at puberty.  From first tumescence to senescence, your bio in five words.

I'm almost tempted to look for his concert music to see what that's like, though I expect Oscar Levant's is probably better.   His scoring for the Eames movies is quite good, as is his direction of it.   I'll bet he enjoyed doing that but I expected scoring Hollywood shit paid a lot better.

  1. Uh, Sparky -- I actually interviewed Bernstein (in 1992, on the occasion of the release of a brilliant album of him conducting Bernie Herrmann film music) and let's just say he strongly disagreed (heh) with you about whether he'd been blacklisted (two words: ROBOT MONSTER). He also was profoundly grateful to DeMille for rescuing his career. from, you know, the blacklist. As for your comments on ANIMAL HOUSE and AIRPLANE, the world already knows you have no sense of humor, so it's no surprise you don't get how witty those scores are. Which is also really sad, and yet more proof that -- as I have mentioned on numerous occasions -- you lead a totally parched joyless life.

    1. Hey, I'm just glad that when I was that age I didn't have to give tongue baths to second-rate Hollywood composer-conductors to make my living. PEOPLE WHO WERE REALLY BLACKLISTED IN HOLLYWOOD WEREN'T GETTING PAID WORK WORKING IN HOLLYWOOD DURING THE BLACKLIST. His "blacklisting" is nothing if not a grotesque exaggeration. What he had wasn't a blacklisting, it was a temporary slump in his lucrative career working on the movies. Anyone who thinks Animal House and Airplane are funny is too stupid to have a sense of humor, what they have is a 12-year-old boy's sensibility which is often mistaken as a sense of humor. It's as funny as fart jokes and people laughing at those victimized by playground bullies. NOTHING IN THE MOVIES RISES MUCH ABOVE THAT LEVEL.
I do find you going endlessly over your glory days of sucking up and kissing ass among minor celebrities funny but I'm not proud of it. What it is is pathetic as the summation of a life writing "criticism."

Wow. You do realize that no actual normal person thinks that's true, right Sparky?

Seriously -- what a sad, unjoyful and probably sexless life you've led. And by your own choice. too.😎

I'm just this short of feeling sorry for you...

    1. I'm sure the asshole, mean spirited, white-frat-boy shtick of those movies seems like humor to one of their own like you are but it's just stupid. You, the guy who figured one of the best straight-men in the business didn't understand what she was doing. The guy who thinks Milton Berle was a comic genius and pretends to think Lenny Bruce was what he never was, funny.
Sexless? The guy who wears a Groucho beret instead of hair figures I've led a sexless life? Stupes, I suspect your girlfriend's gotten it less than I have in the past twenty years and when she did didn't enjoy it much. Not to mention the pleasure I get from goading and taunting you.
